Spring Holidays
By Maxine Aschenbrenner (4-12-24)
Hey Ms 442! A few holidays are happening during Spring. Easter this year is March 31st, Passover is April 22 to April 30, and Eid, April 9 - April 10!
Passover :
Passover (Pesach) is a Jewish holiday. One of the three pilgrimage festivals that celebrates the Biblical story of the Israelites' escape from slavery in Egypt. For 8 days (seven in Israel) you traditionally avoid eating food made from leavened grain. Meaning, avoid eating bread or bread products, pasta, oatmeal, beer, and most liquors.
Eid :
Eid is celebrated for 3 days, and is celebrated because it commemorates the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Observing Ramadan is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam. The first Eid was celebrated in 624 CE by the Prophet Muhammad with his relatives and friends after their victory in the battle of Jang-e-Badar. During Eid you celebrate with special morning prayers.
Easter :
Easter is a Christian holiday, and Easter is always celebrated on a Sunday because it is structured around Jesus's death and resurrection. The earliest recorded observance of an Easter celebration comes from the 2nd century, though the commemoration of Jesus' Resurrection probably occurred earlier. Easter is usually celebrated with eggs, rabbits, candy; eggs and rabbits symbolize new life, and rebirth. Candy symbolizes the end of Lent.
