My Life as a Sixth Grader
By Rosemary Breen (10-20-23) (Opinion)
First to make things clear, I’m short compared to 7th & 8th graders. You might think, oh it’s fine, like it’s not a big deal, but truthfully, IT SUCKS!!! Every single time I try to just get over to my locker it’s like I’m fighting against a current. It’s a sea of 7th & 8th graders and even when I do walk I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE! Honestly you’d think that a simple task of walking up one, SHORT flight of stairs shouldn’t be that hard, but if you’re a 6th grader, think again.
Okay, let’s try this. Picture yourself as a short, shy, 6th grader. Now picture some kids 2 years older than you (make some of them kind of scary). Perfect, now imagine around 75 of those kids flooding down the stairs and you with one other person trying to walk up. Also just to top things off there are even other 6th graders walking down the stairs giving me a look of pity and in my head I’m thinking “thank you, someone finally understands” but that doesn’t really help because it’s only about one or two people who actually move over.
That is an accurate description of the life of a 6th grader, feat, walking to your locker. So what I’m hoping is if any 7th and 8th graders are reading this, PLEASE GIVE THE SIXTH GRADERS SOME ROOM ON THE STAIRS!
